Driver caught by forensic tests

A HIT-and-run driver was caught by police when forensic tests found tiny fragments of glass from the crash he caused embedded in his hair.

John Luke ran away from the scene of the crash in Ashington last December and tried to cover his tracks by telling police his car had been stolen.

The incident left motorcyclist Christopher Redshaw fighting for life, his arm fractured in eight places.

Luke, who has 29 previous convictions for 85 offences, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, careless driving, having no insurance and driving while disqualified.
