Driver high on drugs

Christopher Stevenson, 28, of Acklington Road, Amble, smashed a Ford Escort into a parked Vauxhall Polo, on Acklington Road, before driving off. Stevenson was so high on diazepam that tests could not decipher how much he had taken because the concentration in his body was off the scale. Stevenson had driven off from the scene before Police caught up with him in Ashington.

He was seen driving erratically, swerving left and right and crossing the white lines in the road. Last Wednesday, Alnwick magistrates told Stevenson he must serve a concurrent sentence of four months, after he pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs. He has also been disqualified from driving for three years. He also pleaded guilty to using a motor vehicle without third party insurance, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop, and failing to report a road accident. He has had his licence endorsed with penalty points.
