This law is applied very strictly. If you were to borrow a car from someone who says you are insured to drive it, but it turns out you aren’t, you can still be found guilty.

It is also a crime to lend a car to someone who is not insured to drive it. You should always check first. Driving without insurance is a serious offence attracting between 6 to 8 penalty points.
